Being Poor in Spirit
““Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Poor in spirit. What do you think God means here? I admit I am not the cleverest or the brightest so, I looked it up. AI can cover a great lack of intelligence along with knowledge, we hope, right? It refers to spiritual humility, depending on God for it all. Knowing and acknowledging you are inadequate without Him. And I am, I know I am. I am of the knowledge and opinion that everyone is but, I respect a person’s right to choose, to live their life as they understand and interpret it. To me it is one of the concepts God tries to get across to us through the Bible, choosing Him. Not demanding or forcing us to choose Him but, creating relationship with us and loving us, letting us freely come to Him. Freely love Him. It’s an amazing and beautiful thing. God is an amazing God in all respects. So, for that alone it is humbling.
We have many places that life can take us. Mountains majestic to climb. Ascending mammoths that reach almost beyond our capacity at times with their heights, glories, and wonders reaching beyond the clouds and up to the stars. And maybe for some, it is a place beyond what a true whirling dervish can see or feel because in its purity it reaches towards God and an understanding of all. But it isn’t God, it’s deception. So, celebration at the heights does end within a breath and somewhere along the trail you might have an afterglow of quiet but life continues and problems do arise. You get tired of walking, your feet hurt, you are bored, a variety of reasons, excuses, roadblocks can get in the way. Life gets in the way, it becomes the way, it drags you down until you feel your feet sinking into the ground deep. And before you know it, you are aware that reality of a real world is here again. Desperation, pain, and sorrow at the depths can root in you and pull you down into valleys you thought you would never go. It is a deception also.
I don’t have your answers, let alone do I want your problems. I have my own burdens to bear. My best advice is to cling to God, in Him you will find your truth. You will find your love, your hope, your joy. God is not simple and He does get you through to Him. That place of comfort and love, that place beyond what we can all comprehend. God amazes and whatever is beyond that, He does that too. He never ends, never leaves, never disappoints.
